    I have a friend who likes to buy cars with, uhh, "problems," especially electrical problems. I've noticed that vehicles built 2012 or later, regardless of manufacturer, tend to melt the low beam headlight connectors. Here's a quick, TEMPORARY solution - remove the burnt plugs from the headlights, and run some speaker wire from the fog lights to the low beam bulbs. You will lose the "auto on" ability for your headlights, since the low beams will now be switched on and off by the fog light button. Also, if your low beams aren't working, and the connectors are melted... If you just sand down the contact points with some 80 grit sand paper, and maybe hit the contacts on the bulb as well, you'll be good to go for a couple weeks. If your plugs look melted, hit them with some sand paper first - I promise you that they'll work again. Long enough for you to replace the plug end.

    Who did the 3d printed nylon/carbon fiber part for your other build? And how did they do it out of curiosity

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage 4 дня назад

      So I did the 3D design work and Jordan, Monster Motoring, printed it. He used SainSmart ePA-CF and it has held up amazingly well. He actually has the same printer as me, an Ender 3 Pro, but he had a cloth enclosure we thought would help with printing. He didn't end up using it, so the main issue was the base of the adapter warped quite a bit. However, we still had enough material to sand it flat on a belt sander. Really most 3D printers with an enclosure could handle the right types of PA-CF filament. I will have short form content on that adapter and it will be in the long form Rotaru series too eventually. I actually have some new even higher spec PP-GF filament called Thermylene by the company Asahi Kasei which I plan to use for the V10 adapter. I have an enclosure for my Ender 3 Pro now and other upgrades to do higher temps. I'll probably be doing that in the next couple weeks and making vids on TikTok/Instagram/Facebook. Thanks for the comment!

    You'd have to do some basic bench racing on this, but I know the later rear hubs 08+ have the same hub pilot dia for the hub assemblies as the 350z. So I'd bet if you got the hub assembly trailing arms for a GD those would bolt on and you could redrill the hub assembly bolt pattern into the 350z pattern and simply bolt them into those arms. Edit: jk they didn't make a hub assembly style trailing arm, rip.

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage 4 дня назад

      I get where your mind was going though! I tried to think of a lot of combos like if I did spend the big bucks on STI rear knuckles with the larger bearings, would 350Z/370Z/Pathfinder axles slot into those? If not, could I press out the hubs and put in some scavenged from Nissan knuckles? None of that seemed to pan out, so I think the plan is just to hole saw out the Impreza knuckles and weld on some custom tubes with flanges that hold the 370Z hub assemblies. Got most of the idea from Dirt Cheap Daily. Thanks for the comment!

    • @Levibetz
      @Levibetz 4 дня назад

      @@802Garage Well, check this out. 350z wheel bearing has a 43mm ID, STI has a 42mm ID. So if you get the STI bearing, you'd only have to take a 350z hub down 1mm on its OD to make it press into the STI bearing just perfectly. Easy job on even a benchtop lathe. Of course you'll have to figure out your brake rotor offset and pilot, etc etc to get it all right. I don't love the idea of welding on the knuckle like that but it'd probably work. I have a (long on jackstands) project that I plan to fit an explorer 8.8 into a 13' STI rear suspension for, so hence my bench racing. Plan for that is 350z bearings with explorer hubs, but the 350z spline may actually match the explorer and work. I didn't go too far into axles though.

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage 4 дня назад

      @@Levibetz Check out what Dirt Cheap Daily did with NSX bearings on his rear knuckles to do an Explorer 8.8 IRS and it will make more sense. Not terribly worried about welding on the knuckles as they are big chunky pieces of metal and I will add reinforcement. Great idea on turning down the hub though! If I had a lathe I probably would have thought of that, but I tend to think within the limits of the tools I have. Probably a problem of mine, especially considering there is a small machine shop right around the corner that could definitely handle something like that. Despite me being in the middle of nowhere! The other issue of course is the length of the axles and the hubs being placed far enough out to accommodate them. I may end up with some wacky spacing in the rear to try to accommodate the Pathfinder axles. However, I like to stick to as many off the shelf parts as possible so I don't have to repeat fabrication or pay insane amounts for custom anything. Seems you understand. I really like the way you are thinking!

    • @Levibetz
      @Levibetz 4 дня назад

      @@802Garage Yeah I hear ya on the off the shelf parts. One of my pet peeves is fucked up track widths though, it's worth narrowing the axles for that IMO. I narrowed up some R160 axles for my swapped GL hatch and they're working great, I've even spun the tires on dry pavement with no failures (yet). Does the pathfinder have unequal length axles? You may be able to use two short sides. That's how the explorer is. And yeah most cast suspension components on reasonably modern cars are cast steel and not just iron.

    This seems complex and unnecessary addition of more moving parts to a car, which are prone to wear out ! Why not just go electric with simpler and fewer parts ? Besides the acceleration of turbo cars feels unnatural

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage 5 дней назад

      Well, hard for me to answer this in a concise way. First off, it's actually an extremely simply device. Technically there is only one moving part. Three if you want to count bearings. They are robust and reliable when specd correctly for any given application. Electric cars are awesome, but the key issue has always been power density and also efficiency of power transfer. We have very efficient electric motors now, but battery density and charging are still major issues. I do think we will transition more and more to EVs though, of course. The good part about a turbo is that it is using the exhaust for power, so it is actually recycling waste energy to boost the efficiency of an engine. That's why turbos are so prevalent today. It's not just for performance. It's for more fuel economy and power out of smaller engines. I think you should research turbochargers and why they are used more as well as actually drive more turbocharged OEM cars which are tuned for low down torque and a very flat power band. Not to mention diesels, some of the longest lasting and reliable engines period, are almost always turbocharged. Many turbos can go hundreds of thousands of miles problem free. They just need oil changes. There are also electric hybrid turbos now, especially those developed for Formula 1, and Mercedes has implemented them in road cars.

    • @artus198
      @artus198 5 дней назад

      @@802Garage - honestly I have seen that turbos are less fuel efficient, bcoz people generally try to floor the accelerator to get instant torque (which they don't get, due to turbo lag), and that thing the turbo does to prevent knocking , it uses more fuel+air to cool down an overheated engine - this reduces fuel efficiency.

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage 5 дней назад

      @@artus198 I'm just going to be completely blunt with you: You don't actually have enough knowledge on the subject to make the assumptions you are making. I encourage you to keep an open mind and continue learning, but you have a very shallow and biased viewpoint. I say this not to insult you, but just to stick in your brain that someone with hundreds of hours of research on this topic told you that you weren't quite right. I don't have the time to teach you personally, but there are mountains of information available. Search for how turbochargers increase engine efficiency and watch videos. Research the torque curve of turbocharged OEM engines. Look at why diesels are turbocharged. Keep in mind safety restrictions, SUV and truck popularity, vehicle weight, and other factors which affect modern vehicles beyond turbocharging. Research turbocharger sizing and efficiency increasing aspects such as twin scroll and VGT. Most importantly, have fun learning! Don't set out to prove anything wrong or right, just question and absorb.

      @@802Garage also something I learned, supposedly the magnum has the same bellhousing pattern as the viper, so in theory with the right clutch, the t56 and tr6060 are potential transmission options, but they’re expensive

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage 5 дней назад

      @@dillondavis2550 Correct as far as I know, though I'm even less familiar with the TR6060 option than the T56. The issues are that the Viper T56 is quite expensive, the flywheel uses a different bolt pattern than the V10, the input splines are a different on the clutch disk, and in general I'm not sure about clutch spacing. Some encouraging facts are that the flywheel bolts are the same and the clutch disc size is the same. The pilot bearings have a different ID, but same width and OD, so you could use the Viper pilot bearing in the V10 flywheel. So I think you could make it all work by using a V10 flywheel, the very pricey flywheel bolts from either, the Viper clutch disk, and possibly either clutch cover as they look very similar. You can almost certainly make it work once you have all the parts in hand by using whichever clutch cover makes the most sense or at worst drilling new holes in the flywheel to mount the Viper cover. The throwout bearings are very different since the Viper is hydraulic, but the faces are the same style and at least very close to the same size, so I think it would work with either cover. If the spacing wasn't correct, you could add shims behind the V10 flywheel as long as it wasn't too tall. I just don't think anyone has ever done it, but if I had the budget, I'd love to figure it out.

      LOL well I already own... 4 more GC sedans? One of which has an EJ20 and is a riot. Why not? You telling me this won't be a riot? Also this is just how I always am. Never touched drugs in my life.

    Don’t hear any clucking noise tbh but gas pedal does shake a ton and car when I’m going 40mph or when my rpm is a lil above 2 is when it shakes bad I’m going to do a diagnosis on the cv joints and the mounts soon but even if the cv joint isn’t making a clunk noise it can still cause your vehicle to vibrate at high speeds ? Just changed the spark plugs and it definitely help make the car run better when at complete stops and help it idle better but not sure just gotta wait I guess till I get underneath
